Well-thought out innovations[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using this item just over a week. I like siphon-style coffee a lot, and have made it on and off for decades; I usually use it as an every-morning pot. To some extent, siphon coffee is siphon coffee; it's all pretty good. The KitchenAid has a number of interesting, well though out innovations though.
The magnetic latch is super. It means the rubber gasket is quite small and feels sturdy, thus eliminating a failure point of many competing siphon brewers. Every brewer I have had ultimately broke or cracked on the long glass siphon tube, so KitchenAid's replacing that tube with a stainless steel one is a great move. Then, because the siphon tube isn't an extension of the top chamber, the interface between the filter and the vacuum is exceptionally large, so the vacuum process goes very very fast realtive to anything I have used. As a result you'll need to use a little more coffee -- you don't have that long slow pull through the grounds, but, I _think_ that's a good thing? The coffee feels a little less bitter to me this way and I can't imagine you could easily clog up the filter.
I have not used the cloth filter and probably won't. I have twice made the mistake of thinking the filter was locked into place when it wasn't, ugh. But I think I am getting the hang of it and it isn't a serious long-term problem.
The only innovation not so good is pouring out the last cup or two is not great; it's tricky. I have only made 6 or 8 cup batches because traditionally siphon brewers work poorly for small quantities, but, maybe I'll give 4 cups a try and update this.
The whole thing feels solid and well built.

Just WOW!I received this as a gift and was so happy with the coffee. I’m a coffee addict and Starbucks was my daily go to. Not anymore. This machine is simple and the coffee is superb. And I don’t have to drive to get a inferior cup of joe. No joking.

Super Neat!![This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve never heard of vacuum coffee before. Bought this for the simple reason that I wanted to see inside. I wanted to be able to clean all parts. So if you want convenience - maybe this is not for you/ you have to wash it every time you use it.
But the coffee taste amazing, and I know there is no mold in the machine !
Also it’s a great looking piece to have on your kitchen counter!!

Death to Nespresso Vertuoline[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I own a total of 3 Nespresso machines - and then there is this baby! I post a video to Facebook - reminding my friends about the machine and how awesome it is! I would NEVER replace this unless another Siphon.

Finally, A Great Cup of Coffee[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For years I've been trying to reproduce a stunningly good cup of coffee I had at a small cafe. Even with the same beans and a high-end SCAA certified coffee maker and a lot of experimenting, I could not achieve the goal... until now. As with most automatic coffee makers, you can't control everything, so I played with the things I could control, namely the amount of coffee and the size of the grind. I believe the recommendation from Kitchenaid was around 70 grams of coffee with a medium grind for "8" cups, which is pretty close to a standard 15-to-1 ratio. (Realize of course that the "8" on the side of the coffee maker does not refer to 8 oz cups. Fill water to the "8" and you have between 4 and 5 real cups.) I got my best result so far using about 60 grams of coffee, and a much finer grind that is closer to espresso than medium. I also followed the recommendation of a previous review and covered the metal filter with a paper filter. This is easy, requiring only a few seconds to do, and completely removes the cloudiness from the coffee. The only thing you miss is the entertaining show when the coffee flushes from the top vessel to the bottom. I don't know if it's the fine grind or the additional paper filter or a bit of both, but instead of a dramatic violent flush like you see in the video, the coffee dribbles down at a slower, but reasonable rate. I give it about a minute before I detach and park the top vessel. If I want to enjoy coffee throughout the morning, I transfer it to a pre-warmed thermal carafe, which was the best part of the SCAA certified coffee maker my Kitchenaid replaced.
