It was 20 years old and still worked fine, but the paint near the pour spout started to chip off. I loved the old one so much I bought the exact same thing. Now I can boil water for green tea faster than using a kettle on the stovetop, or having to use a thermometer to check the temperature of water heated in the microwave. All you have to do is add water (I use distilled, so I won't get any calcium/mineral buildup inside) set the selector knob on the base to 80 (which is in Celsius) press the power button, and viola! The perfect temperature for green tea (or white, Yerba mate, or Matcha.) Set it on 90 for Oolong, black, Chai, Blooming, hot chocolate, or French press coffee. 100 for herbal tea, Rooibos, oatmeal, or instant soup. Another great feature is that the kettle will hold the temperature you selected until you manually shut off the power button.
