Rated 1 out of 5 by ricks-56-CA from Very poor quality control of Kitchaid Microwave Original microwave was missing the microwave inlet cover (found in the packing material after using the microwave for several days). Took 3 more tries to get a unit that was acceptable (but still had a dent on one side). The first 3 microwaves all had misaligned doors, and all 4 had dents on the side. Usage for manual cooking doesn't work as the Use Guide indicates - always requires 2 pushes of the start button vs. 1. Helped a friend with a GE microwave that was half the price and it was in perfect condition and worked as expected. If we weren't constrained by cutout size there is no way we would order another premium priced Kitchenaid applicance. The one positive is that we kept getting more units to evaluate - shipped to our house.

The price was higher than most typical countertop microwaves, but it is made heavier (metal) and with much more durability than the cheap plastic ones

I had to press the open door button for 30 seconds to get it to work. What is happening to the quality? This is terrible!
