HOW TO MAKE FROZEN LEMONADE WITH A BLENDER
The sun’s shining, the temperature’s rising and you’re thirsty for something cold and thirst-quenching. A frozen lemonade is just the ticket to slake your summer drink cravings. All you need is a good blender, ice, lemons and a sweetener to make a great homemade frozen lemonade. Add herbs, additional fruits or spirits to create delicious twists on this hot weather favorite.
WHAT IS FROZEN LEMONADE?
Blending ice with lemon juice, lemon zest and a sweetener like simple syrup or honey is what turns lemons into frozen lemonade. Tart, sweet and icy cold, this drink is delicious as is or use it as the foundation for a variety of tangy, refreshing frozen summer drinks and cocktails.
WHAT IS A FROZEN LEMONADE CONCENTRATE?
Frozen lemonade concentrate is a more potent form of lemonade containing less water than lemonade. It’s made from a combination of equal parts simple syrup and lemon juice. The concentrate can be stored in the freezer. When you’re ready to use, combine the concentrate in a 1:1 ratio with water.
Quickly juice lemons at home with the KitchenAid® Citrus Juicer. It attaches easily to all KitchenAid® stand mixers1 and rapidly extracts juice from handheld fruits directly into a bowl, pitcher, or measuring cup, catching seeds in a built-in strainer.

Gather your freshest, most fragrant lemons, sugar, water, ice—and a versatile KitchenAid® blender—and you have what you need to make a tasty frozen lemonade.
YIELDS
4 cups
INGREDIENTS
1 cup simple syrup
1 cup lemon juice
2 cups cold water
Zest from 1 lemon
6 cups of ice
Fresh mint, basil or lemon wedges for garnish, optional
Sugars for the rims of glasses, optional
TOOLS
Lemon juicer or KitchenAid® Citrus Juicer Attachment
Zester
Kitchen knife
Glasses for serving drinks
Straws, optional
SUGAR TIP:
Granulated sugar is difficult to dissolve thoroughly in cold drinks. Turn granulated sugar into a simple syrup by heating a 1:1 ratio of water and sugar in a saucepan on the cooktop until the sugar has completely dissolved. Let it cool before you blend with other frozen lemonade ingredients. Honey, maple syrup, agave or even superfine sugar incorporate easily into cold beverages and also make good sweeteners for frozen lemonade.

STEP 1: ZEST AND JUICE LEMONS
Zest a lemon and set the zest aside while you juice the lemons. Roll the lemons on the counter or cutting board to help release the juices, then cut them in half and extract the juice by hand, or with a juicer. Be sure to remove seeds. Use the KitchenAid® Citrus Juicer to rapidly extract juice and catch seeds from citrus fruits.
STEP 2: ADD INGREDIENTS TO BLENDER
Add lemon juice, simple syrup and zest to the jar of a blender, followed by ice.
STEP 3: BLEND FROM LOW TO HIGH
Begin blending on low speed and gradually increase speed to high to avoid overmixing or adding too much heat to the blender. When the ice stops cracking, stop the blender and check the mixture. If it’s still chunky, pulse in quick bursts for a few seconds at a time until you reach your desired texture. Start with less ice than you think you’ll need, as too much ice can dilute your flavors. If your mixture is soupy, add ice a few cubes at a time until you have a thick, smooth frozen lemonade.
Icy Drinks is one of 3 preset recipe programs on the KitchenAid® K400 Variable Speed Blender. This feature automatically blends at the optimal speed and time to crush ice and combine ingredients together.
STEP 4: POUR INTO GLASSES, GARNISH & SERVE
Pour into chilled glasses and garnish with fresh herbs, lemon wedges, candied citrus, berries or other fruit. Serve immediately.

HOW LONG DOES FROZEN LEMONADE LAST?
To help ensure you have just what you need to satisfy your lemonade cravings throughout the summer, make a large batch of frozen lemonade concentrate and store flat in food storage bags or in covered ice cube trays in the freezer. Once frozen, you can remove the cubes from the trays and keep the frozen cubes in food storage bags in the freezer until ready to use. The concentrate will keep in the freezer for up to six months or in the fridge for up to three weeks.
When you’re ready to make frozen lemonade, remove the cubes from the freezer and allow them to thaw partially before blending with ice and water. Serve your frozen lemonade drinks in chilled, stemmed glasses to help keep them cold. Add fruit or herb garnishes and festive, colorful sugars around the rims of your glasses for a cheery, party vibe.
