HOW TO CLEAN A FOOD PROCESSOR IN 4 STEPS
A food processor is an incredibly versatile tool that allows you to puree, chop, shred and slice your way to experimenting with new dishes. By keeping the appliance and its blades clean after each use, you can use your food processor to create exciting recipes like homemade guacamole or a delicate avocado mayonnaise with ease and versatility.
With a food processor like these models from KitchenAid brand, you’ll be able to use whole ingredients in your recipes for a taste that’s fresh, nutritious and delicious. This guide will offer some helpful tips on how to clean your food processor step by step so you can begin experimenting with new dishes, dips and sauces.
HOW TO CLEAN A FOOD PROCESSOR STEP BY STEP
Help maintain your food processor by immediately cleaning the appliance and its parts after each use. By frequently cleaning your food processor, it will always be ready and waiting for new recipes.
Properly clean and store your appliance by following these simple food processor cleaning tips.
SUPPLIES
Dish soap
Dishwasher (optional)
TOOLS
Damp cloth for cleaning
Dry cloth
Small cleaning brush, if needed
STEP 1. DISCONNECT AND DISASSEMBLE THE FOOD PROCESSOR
Make sure your food processor is unplugged, then remove the lid, blade and bowl. On some models, you may need to rotate the bowl to unlock and separate it from the base of the food processor. Select KitchenAid® food processors feature a no-twist lid and bowl for easy assembly.
STEP 2. CLEAN THE BASE AND CORD
Wipe the base and cord of the food processor with a warm, damp cloth. Once clean, thoroughly dry with a soft cloth. Help protect the appliance and its parts against damage by avoiding abrasive cleaners or scouring pads. Do not immerse the base of the food processor or the power cord in water or another liquid.
STEP 3. CLEAN THE BOWL, LID AND BLADES
To wash the parts of your food processor by hand, clean them using warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid using abrasive cleansers or scouring pads that may scratch or cloud the work bowl and cover.
To quickly clean the interior of the food processor and its blades, simply pour water into the bowl until it’s about ⅓ of the way full, add a few drops of dishwashing liquid and run the food processor on high for 30 seconds. For parts of your food processor that are dishwasher-safe, simply wash the pieces on the top rack using gentle or normal wash cycles with dishwasher detergent. Refer to the owner's manual for your food processor for specific washing recommendations.
STEP 4. DRY AND STORE THE FOOD PROCESSOR PARTS
As with the base and power cord, gently dry the lid, bowl and blades of your food processor with a soft, clean cloth. Make sure the individual parts of your food processor have been thoroughly dried before storing the appliance.
Once dry, reassemble your food processor before storing. If you keep your food processor in a cabinet or on a shelf in your pantry, wrap the power cord around the cord storage on the bottom of the base (if present) or around the base itself. Some appliance models, such as the KitchenAid® 9-Cup Food Processor, allow you to keep the blades, drive adaptor and discs of the appliance inside the work bowl for compact storage.

CAN FOOD PROCESSOR PARTS BE WASHED IN A DISHWASHER?
Many food processors feature parts that can be washed in a dishwasher’s top rack, such as the lid, bowl and blades. Before washing, refer to product-specific cleaning information in the owner’s manual for your food processor.
To clean the lid, bowl and blades of your KitchenAid® food processor in the dishwasher, place the parts onto the top rack of the appliance (with the bowl loaded upside down) and use gentle or normal dishwashing cycles. Avoid cycles with high temperatures.
HOW DO YOU CLEAN THE INSIDE OF A FOOD PROCESSOR BLADE?
You can clean the inside of a food processor blade of leftover food particles by using a small cleaning brush to gently remove substances with warm water and, if needed, a drop or two of cleaning solution. Also, be sure to clean crevices that may be on the handle or locking mechanism.
WHAT’S AN EASY WAY TO CLEAN TOUGH STAINS OFF OF YOUR FOOD PROCESSOR?
You can use a soft, damp washcloth and a more powerful cleaning solution like vinegar to help clean tough stains or areas with dried food that may develop as you use your food processor. Using vinegar as a cleaning solution will help you sanitize the exterior of the appliance and remove stains that haven’t responded to dish soap alone.
Remember to avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which may damage the surface of the parts. Before storing your appliance, make sure all parts of the food processor have been rinsed and dried thoroughly.
