My first Kitchenaid was purchased in 2006 and has worked without fail for 19 years. I purchased this one based on hidden controls and the Solid (Locked) Cycle. On my older compactor, we manually stopped it at the bottom of the cycle to do the equivalent. It really does allow one to compact more trash before replacing the bag. This model also has a fan with the air filter, which may be a plus for smelly garbage (with composting, I try to keep this a trash compactor rather than smelly garbage). Bags are easy to find (local grocery store) or for me, costco.com.
