Black Sesame Paste
Making your own black sesame paste is so easy and satisfying to make. Buy black sesame seeds in bulk or look for them in large containers at Asian markets. Use the spread on toast, as a filling for mochi or other pastries, or even blended into a custard base for ice cream. Uses [KitchenAid® K150 Blender](https://www.kitchenaid.com/countertop-appliances/blenders/blender-products/p.k150-3-speed-ice-crushing-blender.ksb1325pa.html).
Ingredients
3 Tbsp honey
1/2 cup black sesame seeds
Step by step
Special Equipment: small frying pan
In a small heavy skillet over medium heat, toast the sesame seeds, gently shaking the pan back and forth, until the seeds begin to pop, about 2-3 minutes. (You’ll hear popping sounds and see little white spots as the seeds toast.) Remove from the heat and set aside to cool for 10 minutes.
Transfer the toasted sesame seeds to a blender and grind on speed 3 until pulverized (scraping down the sides of the blender half way through). Add the honey, pulse three times, scrape down sides again, then blend on speed 3 until a smooth paste forms.
Transfer the paste to a small jar with a tight-fitting lid. Use immediately or refrigerate until ready to use. The paste will keep for up to 3 months.
