This 72-inch refrigerator is three inches taller than a standard counter-depth refrigerator. It fills the gap that can be left above many refrigerators, adding to its integrated appeal. A pull-out freezer drawer allows you to organize frozen items on three levels. And with the ExtendFresh™ Temperature Management System all of your ingredients will be held at the optimum temperature to maximize their flavor and texture.

Metallic Accents on Shelf Trim

Are applied to the leading edges of the refrigerator shelves. These rich accents complement the gloss finish of the interior, to make finding your ingredients as much of a pleasure as using them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Regarding black strips from the doors Have used this refrigerator several times for various clients, as well as myself - we have had the black sides painted to match the cabinetry - electrostatic painters can do this. Just make sure to remove everything from the freezer and fridge before painting if already installed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not so awful as these amateurs think This refrigerator will work if you have any common sense. The dimensions and rough openings are listed. I would bet that most of the custom kitchen cabinets were bought at a discount major retail dealer where the customer and the salesman had no clue about what they were doing. If you had a cabinet shop build your cabinets, you picked the wrong shop. I build houses and I build cabinets. I don't have a problem with this. It makes me laugh to read these reviews. You people are something.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Picture showing the wood panels is not this Refrigerator Watch if you are looking at this refrigerator. The picture with the wood panels is actually of one of their built in units not this cabinet depth model and this refrigerator will look totally different. I was looking at it online and glad I actually found one at a retail store to see what it really looked like. Because it really wasn't going to give the look I wanted and I didn't want to pay double the cost for the built in unit I want with a black stainless which looks nice. I was replacing an older Amana that has wood panels and had a stainless trim around the edge of the door. There are few units on the market now that you can put wood panels on and none of then give a great look since there is no trim on the door edge so you see 2.5" of the black color of the door edge and then the wood panel on the front. They really should change the picture to one of the actual refrigerator and not the built in unit as it is really misleading. The rating I gave is because of the looks not the refrigerator itself.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst fridge I have every owned It simply is the most ugly (black strips) and fragile (door handles) fridge I have ever seen. I would never recommend this to anyone - friend or not KitchenAid - get your act together!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Measure twice cut once! I just installed this model in my totally remodeled kitchen so I am going to focus on the install to provide some warnings for next buyer. My kitchen contractor (who does a lot of work with Kitchenaid appliances) created a cabinet for the normal counter depth. The problem is that there are water lines run along the back of the refrigerator. These are strong, stiff lines and instead of having a elbow to enter frig, they are bowed outward (see picture). The end result is that the frig cannot be moved closer to the back wall than 1.5 to 1.75 inches. You do not want to force these lines as they will not bend. Another depth eater is the electrical plug (second picture). It is right angle plug but it is at least 0.5 in high. There are flatter plugs that could have been added to the electrical line to save space. While not related to Kitchenaid, I would recommend that the open end of the water valve be directed to the left. In my case the water valve was slightly to the right and that made it difficult to coil the line. Just something to be aware of when you have the connections placed. The two Kitchenaid problems will require that we add wood strips to the current cabinet enclosure to build it out (fortunately it will work with the rest of the cabinets). We may even do a cut-out in the wall board so the water line can go bit into the wall. These are things you might not catch from the specs, so be sure to consider them in your install. Given we have only operated for 4 days, the frig is very quiet, ice making looks to be plentiful and the cold water feature is great. I highly recommend this non-through the door setup for ice as when I was reviewing the refrigerators the common complaint was the small size of the ice capacity and failures with the ice maker/delivery system. This configuration should provide the most reliability and is great for us since we have only two of us in the home. I'll report more on it when I've had it in operation for awhile.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Flaws in design I loved my previous built-in Kitchenaid refrigerator so when we remodeled another home, I ordered this "counter depth" one, unaware of the black sides which was going into my white kitchen. After having a hissy fit over that, I have finally gotten used to it. However, I just spent the past hour cleaning up a spilt chocolate pudding that ran down the entire back wall of my refrigerator. Whoever thought it was a good idea to NOT extend the glass shelves all the way to the back wall!!! There is a 2-3 inch gap that I have spent countless time trying to retrieve items that have fallen off the shelves. Thank God it wasn't fish because I would have had to trash the entire refrigerator. There is no way even after removing every drawer and shelf to get at the nooks and crannies to properly clean up the mess.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gotta say I like I - the reviews are true, but it is NICE. I would carefully read the reviews. It's true that this is not a built-in looking refrigerator. It is counter depth but for the doors to open there's gonna be some of the black sides exposed. I'll try to post pictures later. But our white kitchen with a black island looks perfect with these exposed sides. It's a really useful refrigerator with lots of interior room and we love the water dispenser and the overall look. The one big negative it is loud for a refrigerator, in the sense that it always can be heard humming. Not terribly loud but constant and continuous gentle humming. Overall we still love it we paid her sears clearance price for it was certainly worth it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not worth the money Decent fridge, for the money these items should be alot better. Things could be better. Ice maker is slow and gasket around the door already torn for no reason. I have to call and get new one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Totally Dissatisfied I specifically bought this refrigerator because it was advertised as counter depth, or built in. It not only is not counter depth but the black sides stick out into the kitchen and it looks horrible. I will never buy another KitchenAid appliances again and I plan on telling absolutely everyone I know not to as well. I am a realtor so I come in contact with a lot of people and I plan to let them know. Totally, totally disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from False Advertising We bought 7 (Yes, 7!) KitchenAid appliances for our newly built home. Three of them were panel ready. This refrigerator was the worst. The image displayed on the website is incorrect. The advertising implies that you will achieve a built-in look - you won't. To make matters worse, KitchenAid seems to be unapologetic to the concerns of its customers - the extra time, cost and creative measures they have to pursue to try to get this terribly designed appliance to fit in with their kitchen designs. My cabinet installer is still wrestling with this. I will tell him about the 1/4" panels that another poster suggested. I wish this feedback was available when we originally purchased prior to construction. I would have gone with another manufacturer. I WILL NEVER buy another KitchenAid appliance. I've already posted on BBB. If you are considering this appliance, please know that it is not as advertised.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DESCRIBED AND ADVERTISED INCORRECTLY I am having the same issues as what other reviewers have described. This refrigerator IS NOT COUNTER DEPTH READY! it clearly states in the item description "This 72-inch refrigerator is three inches taller than a standard counter-depth refrigerator" I called customer service and they tell me that the dimensions are clearly listed in the guide. however, even if a contractor followed the dimensions their is no way for the doors to open because when the doors open they extend wider than the refrigerator. This would mean this refrigerator would have to be free standing. the only way to use this refrigerator in a counter depth scenario would mean to have any cabinets to the left or right of the refrigerator be 24" in depth and allow the refrigerator stick out like a soar thumb. the review left in December shows the issue perfectly if a kitchen is designed with a pull out pantry. the pantry can not be accessed from one side because the refrigerator is sticking out past the cabinets. To reiterate my point, even if the cabinets to the left or right are custom fabricated to the dimensions of this refrigerator a gap of about 3" would have to be left to allow the hinge of the doors swing open. I did not design a custom kitchen to have gaps in between my cabinets. To throw salt on the wound, the ice maker takes way too long to fill the ice tray. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB and consumer reports. The fact that most of the reviews describe the same issue shows fault resides with the manufacture and description of this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Totally agree with other posters and bad design. I don't need to beat a dead horse. If Kitchenaid cared they would post a picture of the black sides that stick out once you panel this refrigerator and also note the side clearance needed. I promise that one little additional picture would make customers feel like there was no deceptive marketing here.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not up to snuff We are remodeling a condominium unit for a client and they selected this refrigerator assuming is was counter depth......well it isn't. As previous reviewers stated with the unit installed it sticks out the thickness of the doors plus panels. And the doors are black......It is not designed as a counter depth refrigerator and should not be advertised as one. In order to make the installation even look passable, we are going to have to cut the back of the wall out to move the unit further back to hide the black doors. Then expand the opening in the built in cabinet to accept the swing of the doors beyond 90 degrees. If we don't you can't get the drawers out. Incredible

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful Fridge with a Big Flaw The fridge looks beautiful, but there is a big flaw with the design and it is not flush with the cabinets due to the door hinges. Also ours is missing the meat drawer divider.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice fridge, but.... I bought this for my new kitchen to be panel ready. It works great and we like the icemaker and water dispenser but it's black and I have an all white kitchen. You might think that it should not matter because I put white panels on the front but it sticks out a few inches from the counter in order for the doors to open and the exposed section is black. It just looks ugly. Don't know why they don't offer it in other colors, they should if you ask me!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SOOOOOOO disappointed! Apparently, all of us who purchased this refrigerator are not very smart because we expected this to sit flush with our expensive built-in cabinets. The ad refers to it as counter depth and integrated. No way is this integrated, it sticks out like a sore thumb! From all of the reviews that I've read, KitchenAid has disappointed many faithful customers. This is my third KitchenAid kitchen and it will be my last. KitchenAid has done nothing but give lame apologies, nothing to really accept any blame or give any sort of consideration Shame on you KitchenAid!! Very, very misleading product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my Counter Depth Refrigerator Love everything about my refrigerator. Counter-depth is perfect - I also had the studs turned to gain another 2-1/2" to recess the refrigerator further to align with the counters. Love the storage capacity, love the interior water dispenser, there is more than enough space for everything, and for keeping items easily accessible and organized. Food stays fresher, longer. Storage bins keep produce fresh, shelves are plentiful and I'm able to keep foods organized. Freezer drawers are perfect for organizing various shapes/sizes and find items easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit Our pre-retirement check off list consisted of making sure we purchased big ticket items that might require replacement in the immediate future. Our old fridge never fit the preexisting cupboard space and was showing some signs of old age. The requirements were tight, requiring a counter depth but shorter height fridge. The one fit like a glove. Apart from the fit, the interior is a design plus. With the personal addition of a few "lazy susan's" to maximize space for minimally used jars of sauces and condiments, the smaller cubic foot size is not an issue...everything at a quick arm's reach without moving things around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RE: Appliance Guy Appliance Guy is absolutely right. I sell appliances and I have been selling this model for 5 plus years straight even when it had the curved Architect series handle. In that time frame I have had one issue which was a sealing issue on the bottom freezer and that was taken care of with ease. This is an industry where problems arise people. Do you expect to buy a car and never have any issues? The only negative thing I have to say about this refrigerator is the black frame makes it hard to design around white cabinets or lighter cabinets in general. Otherwise keep up the great work KitchenAid!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A word about these 1 star Reviews After reading all these 1 star reviews (well, all the reviews) and seeing the fridge in person, we did order it. 1) The picture on the Kitchenaid website IS very misleading. They must have a 1.5" space on both sides of of the fridge in order to open the doors and still have the front of the door flush with the rest of the cabinetry. Plus all their cabinetry must be 30" deep, not the typical 24". 2) If you have a 36" wide space that is 72" tall but not 84" tall and you want custom panels, this may be your ONLY option. 3) This is a mass produced fridge that comes in 5 color options (one of those being custom panels) so it is less than 1/2 the cost of other custom panel fridges. 4) The body itself is cabinet depth. The door itself is designed to stick out past your cabinetry, but much less so that their cheaper 28 cubic foot fridges. 5) Our current fridge that died is a similar type, so the shape itself is not a problem for us. Our main problem is the color. We have a white cabinet kitchen and our existing panels are white. We will need to order new panels anyway as it is a different fridge, but the metal trim that holds the panels in place is black and Kitchenaid does NOT sell any replacement trim kit in white and they also confirmed with me that painting it will void the Kitchenaid warranty. We are currently debating having an eclectic kitchen with brown wood panels vs painting it white and getting matching white panels. Since we have the Abt extended warranty, which painting does NOT void, do we really care about the Kitchenaid warranty? 6) I do foresee those short shelves being a problem, but we have no other choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from your salesman didn't do his job i am an appliance salesman and have this fridge at my house personally. This is a counterdepth fridge NOT a built in fridge. Kitchenaid did not mislead anyone the salesman who sold you the fridge didn't do his job in explaining the difference between a counterdepth fridge and a built in fridge. I could go on for days about this but after reading most of the reviews the problem is not the fridge it is either the salesman didn't inform the comsumer properly or the customer just ordered without knowing truly what they were buying. This is a great fridge and it doesn't deserve the reviews that his gotten. BY far hands down the most popular item i sale when it comes to counterdepth refrigerators. Has been for years.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mostly a good product but a few definite design flaws While I would have loved to put in a built in refrigerator, it was not in the budget. this was still a spendy option but less than 1/2 the cost of a built in. The panels look great but the cost of having the cabinet maker build them and the cost of appliance handles probably added another $600 to the cost. Please also be aware that if you are looking to conceal the refrigerator a bit the panels of course help but the refrigerator itself, the sides of the doors, do show and are black. It worked with my design but definitely would be disappointing in some designs. I suppose you could go through the hassle and expense of painting them but again, added cost. Other color options would be nice. As for the interior, a HUGE disappointment is the fact that the glass shelves do not reach all the way to the back refrigerator wall causing items to fall off the shelves in the back to the shelf below. You can not store items with a smaller diameter near the back or they will fall to the next shelf and there is no way to adjust that. Seems like something one would learn in design 101 but definitely overlooked here!
