The right tool for the job!My grandfather taught me the value of a tool. Buy the best, and take good care of it. I have many of his tools, some approaching a century of service. Kitchen knives are tools; they deserve good care. A good knife needs a good sharpening with an appropriate tool, preferably one that will give good service for a long time.
We had other sharpeners hiding in various corners of our kitchen, none of them particularly useful; they were mostly ignored. Some had a broken part, but we saved the thing because something else was still useful. Mostly, they didn't inspire us to use them. After using this sharpener a while, the others were all thrown away.
The old saying about how if you're going to do one thing, do it really well? This tool fits that bill nicely. When it arrived in the mail I noticed the quality of the case. A tool built to last needs a container that will last too. This case announces that the simple tool inside is serious business.
The sharpener has a heft that says that it was designed practically and built for durability. The tang of the sharpener is deeply embedded in its handle, held in place with three rivets properly installed. Easy to hold, easy to use correctly.
An instruction card illustrates proper use. The angled tip of the shaft visually guides the user to hold it correctly when sharpening, along with the right way to sweep the knife blade along its length. The diamond embedded shaft does a superb job quickly. It cleans up with a quick wipe.
We won't be messing up any more expensive roasts because a dull knife turned them into ground beef. This sharpener, simple as it is, is the kind of tool that'll be passed down for generations, still giving good service. A sensible investment. Young new householders in the family will value these as a gift that will usefully endure many years. Bravo, KitchenAid!

Diamond Sharpener Achieves Razor SharpnessWe have a large array of cutlery, too large to attack sharpening all at once. I keep the Diamond Sharpener close to our knives, and each time I take up a knife to use, I first take a few strokes on the sharpener. All of our knives have been kept sharp using a pull through sharpener, however, the sharpness was never to the degree that is on the blade from the factory. Now, after just a few strokes on each side of the blade, we have a finely honed, razor-sharp blade. Butcher knives, pairing knives, serrated knives, hunting knives, meat cleavers, circular meat cutter blades, all are honed to perfect sharpness. I was not aware that such sharpness could be attained until I received the Diamond Sharpener to review and put it to use. I am sold on this sharpener. The one area I am unable to consider is the durability of the sharpener. However, I have sharpened about 50 knives so far, and it continue to perform well.

A sharpener that worksI previously owned and used a high priced German brand of sharpener but now that I have this Kitchen Aid, it is easier and quicker to sharpen all of my cultlery at a narrower angle allowing for a sharper edge. My wife even commented about how different the knives felt as she never before thought that our knives were that sharp even though I tried with my former sharpener.

Must have for every cook's kitchen! This product didn't leave my counter for the first week I had it. It brought my favorite knives back to life again. It is very easy to handle (I have small hands). It will sharpen any knife with exception of serrated knives. I love to cook and use a variety of knives every day and having sharp knives makes cooking so much easier. My knives are sharp every day! It is a beautiful addition to my cutlery. You can use this tool on your knife as often as needed and it does get it sharp!

Finally - Razor Sharp KnivesI received my KitchenAid Professional Series Diamond Sharpener a few weeks ago and immediately took out my pull through sharpener and the KitchenAid sharpener. I first sharpened a carbon steel knife with the pull through sharpener. It was pretty sharp, but not even close to the factory razor-sharpness one gets with a new knife. I then sharpened the same knife with the KitchenAid Sharpener.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE!
My trusty old carbon butcher knife was razor sharp, just as when I first purchased it some 45 years ago. I completed the same test with stainless steel knives, aluminum knives, serrated knives, table knives, until all of our kitchen and table knives were honed to razor sharpness. The KitchenAid sharpener won out hands down in every test and proved that the "razor sharp" claim was not advertising baloney, but was indeed truthful. Every knife in our kitchen has been sharpened and my wife is ecstatic.
NOTE: I rated the sharpener as average for sound as it is not a sound producing utensil.
