Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Item. Read instructions on care. Ignore the negative comments. I love this item. I just ordered a spare incase I break mine. I am hard on the use of it. I WILL STATE; that if you do not follow the directions and stick this into your dishwasher. You will have issues these the low raters of this item have. When you put this Aluminum beater in a dish washer the action of the dishwasher and the soap create a Chemical Reaction that cause accelerated corrosion of the aluminum. This makes BLACK surface residue that will come off in food. If your Beater ever ends up in the Dish Washer. It can be made useable again. Scrub with a soft scotch-brite (blue dish one by 3M) , with soap and get it clean of the residue. Then hand dry. I know this from personal experience. My beater is fine and I have used it countless times after taking a short cut and putting it in the dish washer. I have to say. DON'T EVER PUT IT IN THE DISH WASHER!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Burnished Beater I am extremely disappointed with the burnished beater. Cake batter turned a frightening gray while creaming butter and sugar. This beater was the replacement for two (2) coated beaters. I thought this new type would be a good replacement - guess I as really wrong! Why not make a plain stainless steel beater. I love my mixer..... No point having equipment without a serviceable attachment. Sad in K-town:(

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Peeling coating no longer usable Very disappointed with the finish on our dough hook and beater as the coating is chipping and peeling off. We can’t use without contaminating our food. Not the best experience with thus product. Is it worthless now?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed and Frustrated I am looking to replace beater for my 5-QT mixer, model K5SSWH. I am reading the reviews for the replacement beater parts (coated flat beater K5AB and burnished flat beater K5ABB) and it appears there are ongoing issues with peeling and leaching that Kitchen Aid has not addressed. I paid a significant amount for my beater and would expect to find quality accessories that will not contaminate my food. What economical solutions do have to assist your devoted customers?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dreaming of a better option I have owned my Kitchenaid Proline KSM5 for several years. I love it and own several of the other attachments. The original flat beater was a white coated version and it eventually started peeling/chipping which deemed it unusable and not food safe. I went to a local cooking store & purchased the Burnished Flat Beater as a replacement about 1 1/2 year ago and keep it hidden from the rest of my family in fear it will end up in dishwasher and ruined. I would REALLY, REALLY like a stainless/dishwasher safe option.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Don't get me wrong, I love my Professional Kitchen Aid, however, I have experienced the same issue outlined by other reviews. The beater is a very poor quality and stains batters. Definitely, not food safe after a few uses. But what saddens me most is that after a substantial financial investment, Kitchen Aid sends generic responses to every review. Take the time to respect your customers by at least addressing the design flaw.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from After All This You Haven't Fixed the Problem?? A few years back, I bought this lift mixer for our new vacation home in black and gave my Mom my old white one - she's had one for years and was ready for a new one. The very first time we used it, we put the blade in the dishwasher and of course ruined it and haven't used it since. Fast forward to today - made an angel food cake - washed the beater first - gray swirls of ick in the batter. Really - you mean you haven't FIXED this problem after so many years and complaints? Why not provide a SS option at least? Even if a person had to spend extra on a mixer that WAS NOT INEXPENSIVE just to use it - it would be worth it. Come on KitchenAid - we want to be your best customers :)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality This is my 3rd beater. The first was coated which chipped. Replaced by a burnished beater. Like the other reviews, the coating is coming off and I deem it no longer safe for food. Again, a burnished beater. Repeat. The whip that came with the mixer(23 years ago) is perfectly fine. Now what???? I have a beautiful mixer with inadequate tools. Shocked at Kitchenaid for not rectifying this well known and ongoing problem. Stainless steel ?? Are these pieces made in USA?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor User Experience, Needs Improvement Unfortunately, I would not recommend this item due to poor quality and design. The materials used in this flat beater are not durable. Once the coating sheds, the exposed metallic material underneath rubs off on your hands. In my opinion, at that point, the beater is no longer safe to come in contact with food and must be discarded. Also note, the general mechanical design creates a negative user experience. This flat beater is not wide enough for the bowl which requires the user to frequently scrape the sides and bottom of bowl, not an easy feat when you're working with a bowl-lift mixer. If the beater was approx. 1" wider this issue may be resolved. My assumption is that the manufacturer didn't fully test/validate the design and materials before purchasing the tooling or the manufacturer didn't have the time/resources to invest in new tooling/materials.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Do not put in the dishwasher! I would first like to say I love my mixer, however I don't feel the same about the original attachments. They absolutely can not go in the dishwasher! I was doing really well until recently.. my husband of course made the fatal mistake. They are no longer usable due to the dark gray coating that now rubs off on everything, but magically stays in place no matter how much you scrub them. I can't really blame Kitchenaid since I knew to hand wash them, however it really is impractical to have something that is destroyed the first time it goes in the dishwasher. I hope they come out with something more durable because unfortunately I am sure this will happen to me again...
