Rated 2 out of 5 by from Microwave latch broke This is our second KitchenAid microwave since we move in to our brand new house and this time the door will not open (while food is inside). I have to buy a new tool kit (bit set) to open up the cover. Once opened, the white plastic latch unattached and was broken and needs replacement. Same thing happened on my next door neighbor's microwave and they also have to buy a new that will fit the trim (this model is no longer available and not sure what is the replacement & might buy a new kit too). The other problem is after 1 year of using this second microwave, the faceplate of the controls started to come off, not totally but only the top portion. We been pushing it back until it sticks again. Now, it's top portion (through mid portion) comes off all the time because it doesn't stick anymore. Not sure if I have to buy a double adhesive tape or put a glue on it so it will stay. The controls started making troubles, like after putting in the seconds or minutes and then press start, it turns off right away without even starting. What can KitchenAid do for this consumer? We really loved it that is why we bought a second one and it is such a nice microwave but the quality/reliability is not nice at all.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Experience Ever with a Kitchenaid product pu First was when opening the door, the microwave stays on. I'm assuming the door sensor switch is bad. Now the microwave doesn't function at all. The microwave door sometimes doesn't open but after about 6 or more pushes or if you hit hard enough it will pop open.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lemon Purchased our home 2 years ago and we are repairing a melted switch inside the unit for a second time! I have to say, I always thought kitchenaid was a higher end appliance but I've had to repair the microwave twice, built in oven, dishwasher, and built in refrigerator! Now, I just need to replace vs repair each item and go with a different manufacturer. Sorry kitchenaid but you make a substandard product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Push button door - poor quality This is the second time that the push button has broken. The button will not open the door (again). Fortunately this time I do not have any food in there as I did the first time. The first time it broke, I (carefully) removed it from the cabinet where it is installed to find out why the button did not work anymore. I found that the plastic latch bracket interacts with a PLASTIC mechanism, which is molded onto the control panel! Of course the button itself was fine, it was the plastic part that was broken! Now the push button is not opening the door again and I suspect when I take the microwave out to see why it is not working, I'm sure I'll find the same PLASTIC piece broken again. Since it is molded onto the control board + touch pad, it could cost around $400 to fix a poor quality/designed plastic non-moving piece. However, I don't think I can even find the part I need anymore, so I may have to buy a new microwave! Totally disgusted that I may need a new microwave (I need to find one that fits) simply because of this poor quality. I cannot recommend KitchenAid microwaves based on this experience.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from unreliable Unit was in house when purchased. Same issue as most where the door is opened and the microwave comes on. Had home warranty appliances company come out and they stated the door sensor switch was bad. They replaced and the unit functioned for two days and on Thanksgiving day the keypad panel stopped functioning properly where all buttons worked except for the #1 button and start button. Came in the day after and for 1 hour the buttons worked. Now they don't again. So we have a working microwave if the unit feels compelled to serve us. Additionally, the open/close push and release doesn't open the door half the time. After about 6 or more pushes or if you hit hard enough it will pop open.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Buy This Lemon My Story is similar to the other 10 or 11 "bad" reviews of this junky unit. We bought the entire matching K-Aid kitchen (Fridge,Double Oven,Everything) about 4 years ago . Recently this Microwave started doing the issues like everyone else where when we push the button to OPEN the door the Microwave turns on and the table starts turning and won't stop until we close the door. So while the door is open the thing stays on. We built our cabinets around this thing and now I have to find a replacement? Come on Kitchen Aid I know you can do better for your customers .NOT SATISFIED!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Similar problems to others Moved into the house, and after about 2 years here, the microwave had similar issues to others...fan and turntable spinning when door opened, and now it started making a weird crackling sound and it won't heat anymore. It was a beautiful unit that matched the rest of the kitchen. I'm not looking forward to replacing it (and the trim) (especially for that price!!!!)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Very Expensive Price I bought this microwave when we remodeled our kitchen about three years ago. Like what the other reviewer said, the microwave fan and turntable runs when the door is open. This was not a cheap microwave and to make it fit, I had to buy a very expensive trim kit. We only use the microwave sparingly, so there should be no excuse for this poor craftsmanship. I am very disappointed with this purchase and with the quality of Kitchenaid overall. We also bought a mid range wall oven that is also having significant problems. Although Kitchenaid was my go to brand, I can no longer recommend based on my current experiences.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality - Short Lifespan Microwave was new when we bought our house 3 years ago, due to complete kitchen remodel. It has completely failed. First it would continue to run when the door was open! Now it doesn't work at all. Very disappointed in the lack of longevity.
